Our History
The “Old” McCree Theatre originated from the Genesee County Model Cities Program and operated until 1989, reflecting a Euro-centric cultural model with little focus on African American liberation. The “New” McCree Theatre was reborn in 2004 with a renewed African-centered philosophy and commitment to excellence and social struggle.
After years of moving between rental spaces, in 2021 the theatre purchased its own permanent home at 4601 Clio Road, Flint — a transformed former church serving as a community hub for the performing arts and local organizations.
Now entering its 18th season, the New McCree Theatre continues to offer inspiring, entertaining, and liberating performances for the Genesee County community.
Mission
